Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is based on the Foresterhill campus. It has a bed occupancy of approximately 900 and serves the local area which is host to a population of 600 000, many of which are rural to the city of Aberdeen. The hospital is a tertiary referral centre that provides all medical specialities on the one campus (including Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital).
The hospital has close links the University of Aberdeen being one of the biggest teaching hospital’s in Scotland. It is due to become one of Scotland’s four Major Trauma Centres in 2016 and as such the Accident and Emergency Department’s of both ARI and RACH serve a hugely important role. In addition to this there is a new trauma response unit that has been setup in 2013, aimed at offering pre-hospital care and response by medical teams to the local area.
The Emergency Department team is one with a broad background and depth of experience, both in medical, nursing and allied professionals. All the staff are dedicated and hard working. We have co-location of primary care out of hours services and work closely with these groups to provide the best possible care to our patients – right place, right time, right treatment.
